"Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do." — Brené Brown
When I entered teaching, I felt like I was struggling. Not because I wasn’t capable, but because everything was so new. There were rules, policies, and expectations that didn’t feel black & white like I was used to. I tried doing what my mentors told me, the way they did it, but it never felt like it worked for me.
A Black Lady Spotlight 🔦
Kamala Harris continues to show us that leadership isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about being willing to face criticism, share your truth, and keep showing up. Her openness reminds us that vulnerability is a powerful form of courage. Her new book 107 Days isn’t just a title — it’s a testament to Kamala Harris’s willingness to be open, reflective, and real. Vulnerability, after all, is where true power begins.

Learning to Ask for Help
Even though staff and students praised me, inside I felt lost and out of my comfort zone. I was used to catching on quickly, so admitting I needed help felt like admitting failure. But the moment I opened up about my challenges, everything shifted. Sharing my truth brought encouragement, validation, and connection. I realized that many others had the same feelings, and my honesty gave them permission to speak up too.
That experience taught me: vulnerability is not weakness. It’s the courage to say, “I need help” and the wisdom to learn in your own way.
👉🏾 Key Takeaways - What Vulnerability Really Teaches Us
- Vulnerability creates connection — when you share your truth, others feel safe to share theirs.
- Asking for help isn’t failure; it’s a step toward growth.
- Sometimes courage looks like saying, “I don’t have it all figured out, but I’m willing to learn.”
Vulnerability doesn’t weaken us, it frees us. Every time you share your truth, you’re building courage muscles for yourself and for the people watching you.

The real strength is not in hiding your struggles, but in opening up and letting others see your heart. That’s where healing, connection, and true courage live.
